DeMarcus Cousins Tells Trae Young To Leave Hawks In Fear Of Him Becoming Scapegoat

DeMarcus Cousins fears for Trae Young as he thinks that the young point guard will soon relive what Cousins faced during his time with the Sacramento Kings.

Will Trae Young Be The next DeMarcus Cousins?

Cousins is talking from experience and claims that he thinks that’s what will happen to Young. The longer he stays with the Atlanta Hawks, the more everyone will blame him.

This comes from the retired four-time All-Star, who spent nearly seven seasons with the Kings. During this time, he faced tons of controversy—some of which can be traced back to his troubled relationship with their head coach, George Karl. This controversy eventually sent him to the New Orleans Pelicans through a trade in 2017.

He seems to project his situation onto Young’s on All The Spoke‘s Podcast, Bully Ball, by claiming he’d get ahead of the curve. He claims that despite all of the point guard’s success, the team will eventually blame him—it’s just how the game goes.

It starts from the top, as the team blames the coach for not bringing in more success. After which, they’ll go onto the players, especially those who excel, for not helping the team succeed.

“If I’m Trae Young, I’d get ahead of the curve. The situation I’m afraid of with Trae Young is he’ll remain there too long. Then all of a sudden, he becomes the villain, he’s the scapegoat. I know from experience, I know how these organizations work. Once things start to crumble, once things start to fail, the blame game starts. It usually starts with the coach first, then it’s the player’s fault.”

The Hawks Moved On With Their Coach

The Kings have already replaced Nate McMillan with Quin Snyder. According to Cousin’s logic, the superstars are next.

This is the same experience Cousins had during his stint with the Kings. Despite his general success, there still were issues that they blamed him for. During his stay with the team from 2010-2017, many regarded him as the only good thing about the franchise at the time.

However, the team, especially the coach, didn’t feel the same way. Thus, he warns Young not to make the same “mistake” he did.

“Obviously, they’ve moved on from a coach in Nate McMillan. And they’ve now brought in Quin Snyder, pretty established guy in this league. The politics come into play, once this thing continues to crumble, it’s gonna be Trae Young’s fault to be the villain.”

Do you think Young should request a trade as soon as possible?
