Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball injured his right wrist during Charlotte’s game against the LA Clippers on Friday.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Ball expects to miss the remainder of the season. Sources close to Wojnarowski indicated Ball, in addition to Charlotte’s medical staff, would meet with Dr. Michelle Carlson in New York, a top hand injury specialist.

Ball’s significantly important role to the Hornets as their starting point guard, along with his trajectory as Charlotte’s franchise player, caused Charlotte’s playoff hopes to lower heavily. With the news of Ball’s injury, and their rotation thinning, Devonte’ Graham and Malik Monk are candidates for increased playing time.

Hornets fans and media widely consider Ball the front-runner for Rookie Of The Year; thus, the injury will severely dash his hopes of winning the award. Charlotte is currently 8th in the eastern conference at the time of writing.

Ball currently averages 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists during his first NBA season.
