Joel Embiid may dominate the NBA world as a big man, but his sights are set on another sport. The Philadelphia 76er expresses his love for soccer as it’s a better team game in his eyes.

Joel Embiid As Soccer’s First Seven-Foot Player?

The six-time All-Star is doing well this season, possibly even his best. He’s clocked in 36 points, 11.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists a game, but despite his dominance, he’d rather play another sport. The big man’s sentiments mimic Anthony Edwards’ wish to be an NFL-slash-basketball player at the same time.

During an episode of Men in Blazers, the Cameroonian center explains why he’d rather play soccer over basketball.

Firstly, he admits that much of his sentiments stem from his love for the sport. Not only does he love it, but it’s also the biggest sport in the world. After all, soccer boasts 3.5 billion fans while basketball trails with its 2.2 billion.

“I’d rather be a football player over a basketball player. That’s how much I love football. There’s nothing close to it, biggest sport in the world. I like the concept of the team.”

Furthermore, the MVP claims that basketball’s system has flaws. Specifically, if a team has two or more superstars worth their salt, they can win any game. Meanwhile, a soccer team requires all its players to play well; otherwise, they’d lose.

He emphasizes that soccer requires players to focus on both ends of the field compared to basketball.

“In basketball, if you have two good players, you can win any game. In football, the team has to be together, they have to follow the same concept, they have to follow the coach’s instruction. Because the moment you don’t, you’re not gonna win. One mistake, it doesn’t matter how good you are offensively. If the defense is not pretty good, you not gonna win.”

As impossible as it might seem, many users are half-jokingly asking the Sixers superstar to join their clubs to improve their roster.

Meanwhile, other users compare another Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana, to Embiid.

Additionally, considering how much running one would do during a soccer game, finding the compromise for a seven-footer on the field would be difficult. Not only that, but the tallest soccer player was only six-foot-10.
