Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson recently condemned racism towards the Asian community via Twitter after a Filipino food truck fell victim to racist graffiti over this past weekend. The graffiti read “F*ck Ch**ks” and “Ch**ks” in stark white lettering over the side of the truck.
This season’s 6th Man of the Year is half-Filipino himself so the issue no doubt hits close to home for him. He even represents the Philippines on an international stage and is featured in the 2018 Asian Games.
Clarkson had the following to say after news of the vandalism emerged out of Utah.
“It hurt me deeply to see that Salt Lake�s Yum Yum Asian food truck was recently vandalized � I know the pain that hateful language and racism causes.”

“Ch**k” is a slur known for its usage in attacks against Asian-American communities and individuals. It has origins in the early 1900’s as a word used to describe the largely unpopular waves of Chinese immigrants that arrived in the United States at the time.
The World Famous Yum Yum Asian food truck also put out their own statement regarding the hateful incident.
“We are not going to have hatred stop us from sharing our culture. Thank you for all the people reaching out. All the love is truly overwhelming.”
Asian hate is a prominent issue in today’s America and saw an increase in cases following the COVID-19 outbreak. Most notably, in March a gunman targeted Asian-run spas in the Atlanta area and killed 8 people.
Following Clarkson’s tweet, fans voiced their support for the owners of the truck.
Despite the amount of coverage on the case, the reported vandals remain free, with no word on possible suspects.
Clarkson looks to see past the hate and help his Jazz past the Clippers this series. He put up 18 points last game and looks to build on that for tomorrow’s matchup.
