USA Basketball has a new all-time leader in scoring. This past weekend, Kevin Durant surpassed Carmelo Anthony to take over the top spot. Durant accomplished this feat in Team USA’s win over the Czech Republic on Saturday. In what was his highest scoring output of the tournament, Durant’s 23 points helped charge the team to a dominant 119-84 victory. The New York Post’s Brian Lewis shared a quote from Kevin Durant reflecting on this milestone.

Kevin Durant paid much respect to Carmelo Anthony, taking a likeness to his approach in these situations and trying to replicate it somehow. He also talked about what the milestone meant to him and highlighted his primary focus in international play.

“Its still weird for me to do stuff like this because I play a team sport & I try my hardest to make it about the group. But it is special to do something like that. Scoring is something Ive worked on my whole career and expanded my whole career.”
