The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of their first-round series, 119-108. It shouldn’t be much of a big deal since the squad from the Mile High City is still up 3-1. However, this marked the first time the Purple and Gold got the better of the Nuggets in exactly 498 days.

LeBron James notched 30 points in the victory, but the Lakers rode the back of Anthony Davis on this one. Davis scored 25 points and grabbed 23 rebounds, along with six assists and a block. More importantly, D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves showed up by dropping 21 points apiece. The Lakers reserves also outscored their Nuggets counterparts, 13-5.

The last time Los Angeles won against Denver was December 16, 2022. The Lakers blew out the Nuggets, 126-108, when they still had Dennis Schroder, Patrick Beverley, and Russell Westbrook on the team. Westbrook dropped a triple-double in that game, while Thomas Bryant stepped up for an injured Anthony Davis with 21 points. All four are no longer with the team.

Since then, Nikola Jokic and the rest of the Nuggets strung 11 straight wins versus the Lakers. The streak includes the Western Conference Finals sweep, four regular season games in 2023-24, and three first-round games in the 2024 playoffs.

Interestingly, the Lakers were in control for most of the series before collapsing in the second half. In Game 2, the Purple and Gold were up 20 in the third quarter and 10 going into the final frame before losing to a Jamal Murray buzzer-beater

Game 4 will be back in Colorado on Monday, April 29.
