22-year-old NBA star Luka Don?i? made his Olympics debut for Slovenia Monday, opening Group C play vs. Argentina. In his first game, Don?i? had one of the best games in Olympics history. The Dallas Mavericks’ star put up 48 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks, all while shooting 62% from the field. He had the second-highest scoring game in the Olympics ever, tied with Australian Ed Palubinskas, who scored 48 in 1976.

This may not come as a huge surprise for NBA fans, as Don?i? continues to exceed expectations when the lights are brightest. Just over a month ago, he almost single-handedly knocked the Los Angeles Clippers out of the playoffs.

Don?i? was on pace to break the record of 55 points, set by Brazil’s Oscar Schmidt in Seoul in 1988. However, he was pulled with 4:35 remaining as the game was already locked up for Slovenia.

“I don’t care about records. We got a win and that’s what we came here for.”

The numbers Luka has been putting up in the NBA and now Olympics, at 22 years of age, are mind-boggling. With his maturity and impeccable work ethic, Don?i? is on his way to being one of the best players of all time.

Argentina in awe

After the game, Argentina’s head coach Sergio HernŠndez said they “tried everything” to stop him, but he is no “normal player.” Forward Luis Scola said Don?i? was “too good” for Argentina to stop him. HernŠndez then took his praise to another level when talking about the 22-year-old:

“For me, I said this two years ago: he is the best player in the world, including the NBA. And if there was any doubt in my mind, there’s no doubt anymore. He is the best player in the world.”
