After using an anti-Semitic slur in one of his Twitch video game streams, Meyers Leonard finally receives punishment. The NBA dished out a $50,000 fine to Leonard as well as a 1-week ban from all team activities and workouts.
Commissioner Adam Silver also put out the following statement in which he denounced Leonard’s actions. He also said that Leonard is “remorseful” for his remark.
The decision comes after a short investigation by the NBA regarding the stream and Leonard’s words.
His punishment drew criticism from fans across the league as some call it too harsh, while some think it’s not enough. Regardless, the league took action, and Leonard’s punishment is final. Additionally, Leonard reportedly will have to join a “cultural diversity program” as a requirement from the NBA.
This season is one to forget for the Heat forward as he is currently out for the season. On Feb. 2nd, the team announced that he was undergoing surgery for a lingering shoulder injury. Leonard also only made 3 appearances in the NBA bubble this past postseason.
