The new NBA season is in full swing, and with it comes another update of the MVP ladder. This list highlights the top players at a select point of the year. Nets forward, Kevin Durant has performed at peak levels despite his team’s relatively slow start, earning him the top spot. Standing right behind him comes his former teammate, Stephen Curry, who has led Golden State’s resurgence atop the Western Conference. Meanwhile, Heat swingman Jimmy Butler has picked up his performance from a bitter ending last season. As he leads his team near the top seed out East, he earns the third spot.

Other early nominees listed include reigning league MVP Nikola Jokic, Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, and former Rookie of the Year winners Luka Doncic and Ja Morant. Obviously, the names will change as the season progresses. Even in the next update, the NBA MVP ladder will look different. For now, though, let’s credit these players for their outstanding performance thus far.

MVP Discussions: NBA 2021-22

We’ve placed our own bid as to who we see taking home MVP honors this year. But as always, the NBA’s Most Valuable Player is hard to call from a year to year basis. There are no set criteria for qualification beyond playing exceedingly well on a playoff-bound team. Because of this, arguments ensue every season on the matter.

While it does garner interest, it can at times make people dismissive of the accolade entirely. However, the journey along the way does make for decent dialogue about those to whom it concerns. We’ll see how it all turns out for this year’s slate of contenders.
