According to a recent study by Gambling.com, the Raptors have the smartest fans in the NBA.

Research conducted by the company is in concert with the notion that education equates to intelligence. Furthermore, their study abides by claims that for every additional year of education a person fulfills, they gain anywhere between one to five IQ points.

Based on these assertions, Gambling.com collected data for every NBA team’s fanbases to deduce which is the smartest. Firstly, they compartmentalized education into five levels — no education, primary education, lower education, upper education, and post education. Next, an index score was calculated based on the number of people in an NBA city that have earned a specific education. The index score is out of 15.

According to the research, the Raptors have the smartest fans in the league. They boast an index score of 8.83, as well as an impressive 26.40% post education rate. Interestingly, though, Toronto has by far the lowest upper education numbers (49.30%) of any team in the top 10. This is because it is offset by their lower and primary education rates. The former is the second best (18.20%), while the latter is far and away the top in the association (7.40%).

The Mavericks have the highest post education rate but have the second greatest no education figures. However, this is still below the average no education rate for NBA fanbases, which is 1.11%.

Also, despite having the most fans with a lower education and just 0.2% being uneducated, Sacramento barely made the cut at 10. This is largely due to their post education. Only 23.20% of Kings fans have a post education.

Additionally, the study also highlights the teams with the lowest scores. In third last are the Cavaliers. They boast an index score of 7.66 and 21.8% of their fans have a post education. Moreover, 1.60% of Cleveland supporters have no formal education.

Next, in the penultimate spot, are the Bulls. With an index score of 7.56, they are tied with the Lakers for the second-lowest no education rate, at nearly 2%.

Finally, Gambling.com found that the Warriors are the franchise with the least smart fans. Posting an index score of 5.87 out of 15, Golden State has over 5% of their fans with no education. Furthermore, just 17.3% of their fanbase have a post education, which is by far the lowest in the NBA.
