The star of the Atlanta Hawks, Trae Young, said he wanted to represent Team USA at the FIBA World Cup in 2023 but was never invited. Among those who think Young should be on the Team USA team is Patrick Beverley.

Beverley believes that Young should make the roster. Going as far as to compare him to future Hall-of-Fame point guard Stephen Curry. Beverley stated that he considers Young a top player who shares many of Curry’s abilities.

“He’s won plenty of games. He’s hit plenty of daggers. He’s reinventing the game. Whatever Steph Curry is leaving over, he’s taking it and running with it. Took his team to the Eastern Conference Finals. He’s won big on the road,”

Patrick Beverley said.

Despite being a two-time All-Star and having taken the Atlanta Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, Young has been linked to trade speculations. He has also notably been left off Team USA’s roster this year.

Since they were traded for each other on draft night, Young is also compared to Luka Dončić. That is a difficult comparison for practically everyone in the NBA. Young is used to being compared to other NBA players, for better or worse.

There are some obvious similarities between the way that Young and Curry play the game on the offensive side of the ball. Young also stretches the floor due to his high volume of 3-point shooting. Moreover, like Curry, he is an undersized point guard with excellent shooting range inside the halfcourt line.

Although Young hasn’t achieved the same success as Curry, Beverley thinks Young will continue to alter the game and make it even more dependent on the three-point shot. However, it will be a tough road for any player to reach the accolades of a player like Curry.
