There is no better time for fans and analysts to make predictions about specific teams’ chances of making a splash in the playoffs than right at the start of the 2023 NFL season. That was the case for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

The two had a great debate on the KG Certified podcast on SHOWTIME Basketball. The Boston Celtics legends exchanged their divergent views on the playoff prospects of the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots, two AFC East teams.

Garnett was fervent in his support for the Dolphins because he thinks they can build on their Wild Card finish from the previous season. The former Celtics center believes that the Dolphins, not the Patriots, will likely challenge the Buffalo Bills for the AFC East title.

Ultimately, Garnett and Pierce decided to place their wagers on the Dolphins and Patriots, respectively. They even shook hands after understanding one another’s viewpoints. Depending on which club advances to the postseason, one will treat the other to a meal at Mastro’s renowned restaurant.

It will be intriguing to see which of the Dolphins and Patriots advances to the postseason. That is, assuming even one of them can make the playoffs. The AFC East is arguably the best division in the entire NFL this year. With the AFC being an absolute dogfight this season, both teams will have their hands full trying just to make the playoffs.

The safe bet is unquestionably Garnett’s wager. However, anything is possible in the NFL, particularly with Bill Belichick still leading the Patriots. The Dolphins are a loaded team with offensive weapons that will be a tall task for any defense. However, the Patriots will rely on their defense and a bounceback year from Mac Jones to make some noise in the league.
