Potential for NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta on March 7th

Feb 3, 2021; Atlanta, Georgia, USA; Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic (77) and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young (11) react after the Mavericks defeated the Hawks at State Farm Arena.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the NBA and the Players Association are working towards an All-Star Game and Skills competition in Atlanta. The events will occur at the State Farm Arena on March 7th. This is right in the middle of the March 5-10 mid-season break. All events would take place on one night to remain within the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

Originally, the 2021 All-Star Game was scheduled for February 14th in Indianapolis. The NBA canceled this event due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The plan was for no All-Star Game, but the vote would still take place.

Woj has also reported that players would have to report to their home market two days before the season resumes. Also, testing will be available throughout the break. These are just a couple of the protocols that would have to be present at the event.

With the event taking place in Atlanta, Turner Sports could broadcast the events without sending anybody out of the city. Chris Paul, the leader of the NBPA, has suggested using the event to benefit historically black colleges and universities. No solid plans have emerged yet, but it seems like the NBA All-Star Game is well on its way to taking place.
