Luka Doncic has been on a tear all season for the Dallas Mavericks. At just 25 years old, he has shown that he has the intangibles to go down as one of the greatest players in the history of basketball.

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal had nothing but high praise for Doncic. When discussing his potential with Jamal Crawford, he went as far as to call Doncic the second-best Maverick ever.

“Right now he’s [Luka Doncic] the second best in Dallas Mavericks history only because of championships. Now, if he wins one, you could put him in that conversation with Dirk [Nowitzki].”

German big man Dirk Nowitzki played all 21 years of his career with the Mavericks. He was a 14-time All-Star, one-time MVP, and one-time champion. His ring against the Miami Heat is one of the most impressive wins in modern memory.

Doncic and his Mavericks have been rolling since the All-Star break. The team has won nine of their last 10 games and looks dangerous heading into the playoffs this year. The tandem of both Doncic and Kyrie Irving have found their groove this year.

In his 63 games played this year, Doncic is averaging 33.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game. Every single night you can guarantee that Doncic will fill up the stat sheet. However, as O’Neal said, a championship ring would immortalize him forever.

Given how young Doncic is, the odds are in his favor that he will win at least one ring over the course of his career. The Mavericks are currently sitting with the sixth-best record in the Western Conference. This could very well be the season that Doncic and his Mavs break through to the NBA Finals.
