According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Damian Lillard may not be in Milwaukee by the time next season comes around. As the Bucks prepare to face the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Playoffs, Smith is projecting what the future of the team could look like.

The popular analyst broke down his reasoning while on ESPN’s First Take.

“If Milwaukee loses, I think you need to consider moving Dame up outta there. I’m not talking about his game. He’s not happy there.”

Stephen A. Smith said on the latest episode of First Take

Expecting Lillard to leave Milwaukee after a year seems pretty unreasonable. The odds of the All-Star guard going to another team seems far from realistic. The Bucks are a contender in the league and allow Dame to compete for that allusive championship.

Lillard has been open about some of his off-the-court struggles this season. Moving from Portland to Milwaukee has been a big change for the 33-year-old guard. With a recent divorce and his family still primarily living in Portland, it makes sense for him to be struggling.

After all, Lillard is a human first and a basketball player second.

“I’m not talking about his game because I believe in Dame. I’m talking about what he has to go through and psychologically how that situation may not be ideal for him.”

As things stand, there is no reason to expect Lillard to be traded anytime soon. While the Bucks had a shaky season, including the firing of a coach and up-and-down play from players on the team, they still have all of the tools to make a deep run in this years postseason.

The Bucks will start their series against the Pacers on April 21st.
