Because the 2021 Olympic Games are right around the corner, teams will have to begin training soon. The Olympics will definitely look different, and Team USA must find a way to train before making the Tokyo trip.

To solve this problem, USA basketball plans to host Teams Australia and Spain in a bubble in Las Vegas. Jerry Colangelo the team’s managing director says, “on the surface, it makes a lot of sense.”

The bubble training camp would begin during the week of July 4, per Brian Windhorst of ESPN. It would allow players to isolate themselves and get practice and scrimmage experience before the Olympic Games.

The three teams will have to navigate the NBA Playoffs, which will run simultaneously as the bubble. Also, Team USA and others are pressing the International Olympic Committee to make rosters more flexible. Colangelo hopes that the Olympics will drop requirements to submit rosters well in advance of competitions. Hopefully, adjustments would allow NBA players to transition to Olympic courts in Japan quickly.
