Stephen A. Smith has been very critical of superstar Zion Williamson due to his diet and weight issues. On today’s episode of Get Up! the media personality went on another rant about the 23-year-old star.

Smith made it clear that while Williamson is immensely talented, he enjoys eating food way too much.

“It’s not about his game. It’s about how many burgers he’s eating. Whether he is going to be in shape or keep eating McDonald’s and have chefs clamoring for him.”

The New Orleans Pelicans wasted no time responding to Smith for his comments. The Pelicans went to X (formerly known as Twitter) and posted Smith’s college statistics. The team didn’t even bother to caption the post, just letting the image speak for itself.

Williamson’s weight has been a topic of discussion ever since he dominated the college world at Duke. However, nobody has poked at the issue in the way that Smith has in recent years. The Pelicans took today as an opportunity to clap back at his recent statements.

“That’s what he has to prove, that the chefs don’t love him any longer. That he is committed to playing basketball.”

The Pelicans currently hold the fifth seed in the Western Conference and seem poised for another playoff appearance. In his 45 games played this year, Williamson is averaging 22.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and a career-high 4.9 assists per game.

In reality, the Pelicans’ ceiling is as high as Williamson can carry them. The recent statements from Smith may be enough to fire Williamson up for the rest of the season.
