As the USA basketball team prepares to leave for the Olympics, they will quickly shift gears. Due to potential contact tracing of COVID-19, Bradley Beal has entered health and safety protocols. Adrian Wojnarowski announces that the team will seek an immediate replacement.
The news comes following the announcement that Jerami Grant, also of Team USA, will enter health and safety protocols. Though neither player has returned a positive covid test, officials remain reserved in their management of the situation. There is no word yet on whether the team will replace Grant too. However, that could take form in the coming days.
USA Basketball hosted three exhibition games in Las Vegas against Nigeria, Australia, and Argentina, respectively. The team went 1-2 in those games, only winning the last match of the three.
With this news, it begs to question how it’ll affect the team going into the tournament. Deep as the talent is among the eligible athletes, for USA Basketball, replacing Bradley Beal is no easy task. Their first game will take place on July 25th against France.
USA Basketball: Bradley Beal this season
Finishing second in league scoring, Bradley Beal had just completed his best NBA season in 2021. He averaged a career-high 31.3 points per game on 48.5 percent shooting. For his efforts, Beal earned a spot in the all-star game for only the third time in his career. Despite the slow start to the year, the collective efforts of himself and Russell Westbrook helped guide the Washington Wizards back into the postseason.
They earned their spot in the playoffs through a hot streak down the stretch of the regular season and success in the NBA’s inaugural play-in tournament. While the playoff run that ensued thereafter was short-lived, the appearance marked Washington’s most successful season in two years. They hope to carry the momentum gained from their late run into the 2021-22 season.
