Just hours after a heartbreaking Game 7 loss, Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes reports that Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz will finalize a max contract extension worth $170-million over five years when free agency opens in mid-October.
Mitchell, who just finished his 3rd season for Utah, is one of the leagues bright young stars at age 23. Hes quickly established himself as the Jazzs franchise player, topping 20 points per game and leading the Jazz to the postseason every year since entering the NBA in 2017.
Mitchells long-term commitment to the Jazz should come with no surprise. There was plenty of mutual interest at play, which Mitchell elaborated on after their game seven loss to the Nuggets.
This isn’t the last of it. This is me scratching the surface. I know what I can do, how hard I’ve worked, how hard this team has worked. This won’t be the end of it, said Donovan Mitchell

Donovan’s response to losing in the second round speaks volumes to Mitchell’s mentality as a player and his relationship with the Utah Jazz organization. He has unfinished business in Utah and is more than ready to get to work with a new contract underway.
