Video: Nuggets fan trash-talks Carmelo Anthony and the Blazers postgame

May 24, 2021; Denver, Colorado, USA; Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony (00) is held back by assistant coach John McCullough (L) as he argues a call with referee Ben Taylor (46) at the end of the second quarter against the Denver Nuggets during game two in the first round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs at Ball Arena.

The Blazers and Nuggets are currently matched up in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Portland took the first game in Denver, but on May 24th, the Nuggets evened the series at 1 behind some incredible play from Nikola Jokic.

Carmelo Anthony has provided the Blazers with a jolt of offense from the bench all season long. Because ofMelo’s 18 points in game 1,the Blazers won. As a result, Nuggets fans weren’t too happy and greeted his scoring output with a chorus of boos.

Ball Arena (the nuggets home arena) increased the capacity to a maximum attendance of 7,750. But it sounds like a full house when Carmelo touches the ball. This disdain for Melo among Nuggets fans dates back to the early 2010s.

The Nuggets drafted him in 2003, and he played there until the 2010-11 season. In the2010 postseason, the Nuggetslost in the first round, and the next season Carmelo requested a trade. As a result, he ended up in New York. Many Nuggets fans feel he left the team when they had an opportunity to improve, which has led to a disliking for Carmelo over the years.

Carmelo addressed the boos he received during the game in his postgame press conference. The boos clearly didn’t bother him in game 1; in fact, it seemed like they motivated him.

His performance in game 2 wasn’t on the level with his game 1 showing, and the Nuggets evened the series. After the game, a Nuggets fan was trash-talking at Carmelo as he left the court. The fan boos Melo and berates him, saying, “You suck Melo!” and asking, “How’s New York?”

It appears that the fan in the video posted it on social media, which may have been a mistake. A userposted the video to Reddit, and it is garnering some serious attention. People have been quick to point out the end of the video. The fan yells, “Blazers in 6!” which must be a mistake seeing as they are clearly a Nuggets fan.

It remains to be seen whether any action will be taken in barring the fan from future Nuggets game or any other type of punishment. Game 3 will see the series head to Portland, where one team will look to take a 2-1 lead. An interesting storyline to watch will be how Carmelo responds to the vocal abuse of Nuggets fans.
