San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch was caught with Twitter fingers on Christmas Eve. Lynch liked a tweet that insulted quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. This came after his poor performance against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night. They lost 20-17 on a game-winning field goal by Randy Bullock.
Lynch later explained that liking the tweet was simply a mistake.
“Apparently – while in Christmas Eve Mass w my Family – I accidentally and unknowingly Liked a Tweet. Never intended to and remain a huge believer in Jimmy. Merry Christmas to everyone.”

Garoppolo is coming off maybe his worst game of the season. He threw two poorly timed interceptions. The first came in the second quarter when the 49ers were up 10-0. They were inside the Titans’ 20-yard line, taking a possible field goal or touchdown off the board. The second came while the Niners were on their 20-yard line, which led to a Titans touchdown which tied the game at 10. Though he completed over 70% of his passes and led a game-tying touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter, the two interceptions allowed the game to stay close, in what otherwise would’ve most likely been a 49ers rout.
The 49ers are still in prime position to make the playoffs, however, sitting as the 6th seed in the NFC. They’ve been one of the hottest teams in the NFL over the past nine weeks. Deebo Samuel has emerged as a superstar both as a wide receiver and when used out of the backfield. George Kittle has also proved why he’s a top tight end as the season has gone on after his early-season injury. The defense led by Nick Bosa has also improved.
The 49ers season may come down to the arm of Jimmy Garoppolo to be able to compete with the likes of the Packers and Buccaneers in the NFC. If he fails to answer the call, it may be time for former third overall pick Trey Lance to take over in the Bay Area.
