Packers’ star wide receiver Davante Adams will become an unrestricted free agent in March, and he may test free agency. One of the factors in his decision will be what quarterback Aaron Rodgers will do. Rodgers hasn’t left anything off the table, and it could mean retirement, free agency, or a return to the Packers.
Whatever Rodgers decides, it will be a factor in Davante Adams’ future. When reporters asked whether he and Rodgers are connected, Adams responded thoughtfully.
“Naturally. Why wouldn’t it I’m playing with the best quarterback to play the game. There’s nothing other than having a connection that I built up with my guy, and playing a certain way, so there’s that expectation, there’s that friendship built up in it. There’s a lot that goes into it, so obviously to a certain extent it won’t be the end-all, be-all, but it’ll definitely be something I’m monitoring and paying attention to, to see where his head is at after all of this.”
Davante Adams
Adams is in the midst of another outstanding season for the Packers, and keeping him will be high on Green Bay’s priority list. The 5-time Pro Bowler has racked up 1362 yards and ten touchdowns through 14 games this season. However, if Rodgers decides not to come back, they may not have the option to keep Adams.
Focusing on the present
While the media may already be focusing on Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers in free agency, the two players are focused on this season. After a drama-filled 2021 offseason, it makes sense that neither player is ready to engage with the process. Rodgers made it clear that he didn’t want to return to the Packers last off-season, but the team has remained successful. The Packers boast the best record in the NFL, and a second Lombardy trophy is in their sights. It seems likely that both players’ futures rely on how the season closes. Now we’ll see if the Packers can close the deal.
