In the Cleveland Browns 13-10 win over the winless Detroit Lions, it was a struggle for quarterback Baker Mayfield. Despite the win, Baker drew the ire of the dawg pound as a section of the crowd in Cleveland booed the quarterback. Though Baker heard it, he scoffed at the idea of letting it affect him.

“Probably the same fans who won’t be quiet on offense when we’re trying to operate…so I don’t really care”

In the game against the Lions, Baker completed 15 of his 29 passes for 176 yards. He threw a touchdown to superstar running back Nick Chubb but threw two ugly interceptions against a Lions defense that has allowed the third-most points per game.

This season has been an inconsistent one for the fourth-year starter. The former number one overall pick has shown flashes of the player he was after week seven last season. However, his play in games like Sunday and week ten against the Patriots has stagnated an offense that is as talented as any other in the NFL.

His play has also gained the attention of former head coach Rex Ryan, who thinks Mayfield is “overrated as hell.” So far this season, in 10 games played, he has thrown for 2166 yards, ten touchdowns, and six interceptions. He ranks 21st and 24th in yards and touchdowns, respectfully.

Baker has also dealt with a variety of injuries this season. Most notably, a left shoulder injury held him out in a Thursday night game against the Broncos. Recently, he injured his knee in the 45-7 loss to the Patriots. The rest of the Browns have been riddled with injuries as well. Star players like Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, Denzel Ward, and others have missed time this year.

Currently, the Browns sit at 6-5 and are in the race for their division and a wildcard spot. In their remaining six games, four of them are divisional games. Over the next three weeks, they’ll play the Ravens twice with their bye in the middle. Baker has historically been very up and down against the Ravens, but he’ll need to play well to keep the Browns in the playoff hunt.
