The New York Football Giants had quite the first day of full-contact practice Tuesday morning. During the latter stage of practice, RB Corey Clement split the defense for a big run, then took a big hit. TE Evan Engram shoved the tackler who hit Clement and supposedly had a late hit on safety Jabrill Peppers.
Safety Logan Ryan then hit Engram from behind. From that point forward, it was chaos as the rest of the team erupted into a brawl, and quarterback Daniel Jones somehow found himself at the bottom of the pile. Head coach Joe Judge was absolutely irate with his players.
When the pads come on for the first time in a long time, things can get chippy.
"A full-team brawl at Giants camp with QB Daniel Jones somehow at the bottom of the pile. … Joe Judge is absolutely livid. He’s got the players lined up now to run."Ralph Vacchiano
Joe Judge took out his anger on his players, making them run sprints and pushups.
"After doing 100 yard runs — and not hard enough for Joe Judge’s liking — players are now lined up on the foal line doing push ups. There is dead silence except for Joe Judge’s whistle and his expletives. … So many expletives."Ralph Vacchiano
After the punishment, Joe Judge gathered his players around him and kicked the other coaches off the field. He wanted his players all to himself. Once again, his post-practice speech was filled with expletives.
Logan Ryan spoke with reporters after practice, saying he did not regret his part in the brawl. He also said there would be no lingering issues between him and Engram.
"We’re locker buddies. We’ll be fine. Every great team has chippy times. It’s good.”Logan Ryan
Quarterback Daniel Jones also commented on the melee that took place today.
Giants 2021 Outlook
All seems to be well with the Giants now, as things can get testy when practicing hard like it's a real game. This is how teams get ready for the season.
The Giants had a good offseason making plenty of moves, most notably WR Kenny Golladay. They also improved their secondary tremendously. There are increased expectations for the Giants this year, and many believe it will be a failure if they do not make the playoffs. Their division is wide open, and it is time for Daniel Jones to take a big step in his development and lead this team to the playoffs.
