Darius Slay played for the Lions for a huge portion of his career. He spent seven seasons in Detroit, where he was an All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl three times. However, Slay is with the Eagles, and he isn’t showing much excitement about facing his old team in 2021.

Slay doesn’t want revenge against Detroit; he wants revenge against Matt Patricia. Patricia and Slay didn’t have the best relationship, which is why Slay wanted out of Detroit. However, Patricia isn’t coaching anymore, so Slay isn’t as excited as he once was to face the Lions.

This was Slay’s response on if he’s excited to face his old team in 2021. In addition, he still says he loves Detroit and his former teammates. However, having Patricia on the opposite sideline would make this revenge game a whole lot sweeter.

“Nah, not anymore. If Patricia was there I’d be more excited.”

Slay’s and Patricia’s relationship was never a strong one. For example, Patricia put Slay on blast in front of the whole roster for giving up some catches in training camp. As a result, Slay never really had respect for his head coach.

He told me in front of the whole team, in the team meeting room, showed clips of me in practice getting a ball caught on me in practice. I posted a picture [of a wide receiver on social media], and (Patricia) told me, stop sucking this mans private.”

Patricia would also go on to say that Slay isn’t an elite cornerback. So, as a result, Slay took offense and knew he wouldn’t be in Detroit much longer.

He told me I wasnt elite. He told me I had no business working out with Richard Sherman and [Aqib] Talib because I wasnt elite, and those guys are in the elite category and I was just good. If I aint elite in your eyes, at least Im trying to go compete with guys and work out with guys and pick their brains to become elite.

Slay will get to face the Lions for the first time since leaving Detroit. However, his excitement level isn’t what it used to be because Patricia will no longer be on the opposing sideline.
