Atlanta announced their newest addition this Monday. Dom Maggio will be the team’s second punter on the roster, along with Sterling Hofrichter.
Maggio is yet to play in an NFL game, but he previously starred at Wake Forest in the ACC. In his 2019 senior season, he recorded the second-highest punt average in school history with a 46.8-yard average. He earned second-team all-ACC honors the same year.
If he features this year, Maggio’s first NFL minutes will come a year after he was originally selected in the draft. 2020 saw the Ravens select Maggio, but he failed to make the regular-season roster.
Despite drafting a punter last year in Hofrichter, the team still picked up Maggio from free agency. After all, GM Terry Fontenot did want to add depth to all positions.
The team is in a rebuilding phase with aging franchise quarterback Matt Ryan seemingly always the talk of trades. They are also fresh off a dismal 4-12 season where they finished last in the NFC South.
