Kelvin Benjamin is making his way back to the NFL at 30-years old and will sign with the New York Giants. However, New York is planning to use Benjamin as a tight end instead of a receiver. Benjamin is 6-foot-5, 245 pounds, so he’s built more like a tight end anyway. The Giants continue to make moves after an already busy offseason.

Benjamin is signing with the team after attending the Giants’ Rookie Minicamp this past weekend. He joins Tim Tebow as another player attempting to make a comeback at a new position. Tebow signed with the Jaguars as a tight end after playing his entire career as a quarterback.

New York’s General Manager, Dave Gettleman, is the one who drafted Benjamin back in 2014. Benjamin began his career in Carolina and performed well at first. However, after tearing his ACL in 2015, he saw his production dip and couldn’t stay with a team for more than a full season.

Benjamin went for over 1,000 yards as a rookie, helping the Panthers make the playoffs. However, he saw his production dip when he came back in 2016 and then was on his way out of Carolina the following season.

Benjamin was traded to Buffalo in 2017 and then ended up in Kansas City for a few games in 2018. He hasn’t played in the NFL since but feels he’s ready to come back and give the tight end position a try.

He joins a tight end group of Evan Engram, Kyle Rudolph, and Kaden Smith. Benjamin could add versatility to this offense with his background at wide receiver. He’s currently sitting around fourth or fifth on the depth chart but now has a full offseason to try and move up and secure a spot on the active roster.
