Rookie quarterback Justin Fields did not get the start in week one for the Chicago Bears. But he was the only quarterback to score a touchdown for the Bears by the end of the night. The 22-year-old entered the game in the third quarter to finish off the team's longest drive of the game. That was more than enough time to make an impact.
Bears fans have shown excitement since the team traded up in the draft to select Fields, and he's also making a positive impression amongst his new teammates. Running back David Montgomery is already very impressed with the young quarterback.
"Justin Fields is special. He already has a natural aura to himself that kind of changes the flow of how things go."David Montgomery
Fields went 2/2 on his pass attempts and ran in a three-yard touchdown in his brief cameo during the Bears' defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.
Andy Dalton was always going to be the first-choice quarterback heading into the 2021-22 season. While head coach Matt Nagy was impressed by Fields performance on Sunday night, it seems like a starting change at quarterback is not currently on the cards. Despite Dalton's underwhelming performance in week one.
"He did a great job. He's a weapon for us. He obviously made a helluva run. The times that he got in there, he did well. We'll continue to keep growing with that stuff."Matt Nagy
In many people's eyes, Justin Fields is not just the future of the Chicago Bears but the present too. However, coach Nagy appears determined to let him gain experience as an NFL quarterback without dealing with the pressures of being the QB1.
The fans have already shown they are behind their new QB and if Fields can build on his debut performance. The future is very bright for Chicago Bears football.
