After weeks of waiting, one of the biggest NFL free agents has finally found a new home. The New York Giants announced Saturday afternoon that they would be signing former Lion receiver Kenny Golladay. The terms of the deal are 4-year, $72 million, with $40 million guaranteed. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport first reported the deal.
Golladay lands with the Giants after weeks of speculation about where he would sign. Golladay reportedly visited with the Bears and Bengals before signing long-term with the Giants. The former Lion had expressed his desire to leave Detriot since the team refused to sign him to a long-term deal at the beginning of last year. He will now become Daniel Jones’s top target in New York.
Golladay finished last season with just 20 receptions for 338 yards and 2 touchdowns. His limited production is because he appeared in just 5 games last season. Golladay missed two games with an injured hamstring and nine additional games with an injured hip flexor. The contract Golladay signed is primarily based on his previous years’ performance.
In 2019, Golladay had 65 receptions for 1190 yards and 11 touchdowns. His 11 receiving touchdowns led the league during that season. Since the 2018 season, Golladay has 53 contested catches, which ranks second in the league. The former Northern Illinois product is a physical presence on the outside and near the red zone.
Golladay joins an offense that already included running back Saquon Barkley, tight end Evan Engram, and receiver Darius Slayton. With many weapons now surrounding Daniel Jones, the Giants will hope to make a push for the NFC East crown.
