Following a disastrous COVID-19 outbreak within the Titans organization, league executives are demanding punishment for the team. In just the past ten days, 23 Titans staff and players tested positive for the virus.
On Sept. 29, the NFL forced the closure of Titans practice facilities. However, the next day a group of players, including quarterback Ryan Tannehill was found practicing at a local high school. This breach in COVID protocol is under investigation by the NFL and is pending an outcome.
In addition to practicing without clearance, The Athletic reporter Mike Sando reported that Titans players and staff never fully respected the NFL’s mask requirements. It reportedly was “an open secret” that the Titans organization rarely wore masks during practice and meetings.
Executives made their stance on the Titans clear. They all want punishment for the team, who have already thrown the NFL’s game schedule into disarray amidst the outbreak.
“If there is clear evidence that people were violating policy, crush them because the consequences are too severe for the league.”
“I’m talking millions in fines just to the organization, enough so it really affects the bottom line in what is a challenging year already, and you need to fine the people in charge.”
“I think they forfeit a game, lose a draft pick and incur a fine.”
It doesn’t take much thinking to see what the league thinks of the Titans’ situation. With week 5 of the season fast approaching, only time will tell what happens to the team.
