Last Sunday, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a torn ACL against the Cincinnati Bengals. With this injury, he will be forced to sit out the rest of the season. Beckham expressed his emotions on the season-ending injury in an Instagram story. Here is what he said:
“I just wanna thank you all for checkin on me… this is tough really fkn tough, I really don’t have many words right now definitely not the right ones at least. I couldn’t tell u why this happened, this one doesn’t make much sense, it’s not for me to question, but I believe God truly has a plan and is using me for it. Ton of emotions flowing.. just takin some ME time, some time to heal. Thank u all for the Luv… be back soon.”
Obviously, this a devastating blow for both the Browns and OBJ himself. With a three-time Pro Bowler out, it will definitely be more difficult for the Browns to win games. Being in what looks like the toughest division in the NFL will not make winning games any easier.
However, it might not be as hard as it looks. In this season, Odell Beckham Jr. only averaged 45.6 receiving yards per game and only scored 3 touchdowns. Statistically, the Browns might not be losing as much as what it seems.
Currently, Cleveland sits at 5-2, which is only good for third in the AFC Central. They are behind the Pittsburgh Steelers, 6-0, and the Baltimore Ravens, who are 5-1.
Fortunately, at least this week, the Browns have a prime opportunity to gain some ground in the division. On Sunday, the Steelers and the Ravens face off. If Cleveland can beat the Oakland Raiders (3-3) this Sunday, they could draw closer to the division’s top spot.
Browns fans will hope that even without OBJ, their team can make it to the postseason for the first time since 2002.
