Patrick Mahomes Inks 10-Year, $503 Million Contract With Chiefs

Good news Chiefs Kingdom! It appears star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will continue his rule in Kansas City for the foreseeable future.

Early Monday evening, ESPN’s Adam Shefter reported that the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a 10-year, $503 million contract that would keep Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes under contract until 2031. League sources also told ESPN that the deal includes an injury guarantee of $140 million.

Mahomes, whose deal is worth $503 million over the next 12 years, now beats out MLB star Mike Trout for the richest American professional sports contract.

The Chiefs, who traded up, drafted the Texas Tech product No. 10 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. After sitting his rookie year, Mahomes took the reins in 2018 when the Chiefs dealt then starting quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins. Since then, Mahomes has not disappointed.

After winning regular-season MVP in 2018, Mahomes captured the Chiefs first Super Bowl since 1970 with a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. That game, Mahomes threw for 286 yards and 2 touchdowns to secure his first Super Bowl MVP. For his career, Mahomes has 9,412 passing yards, 76 touchdowns, and an impressive passer rating of 108.9.

At just 24 years old, Mahomes and the Chiefs have the potential to create a dynasty that could last a decade or more.
