There is speculation that the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes are in discussion about a new contract. Quarterbacks like Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson have signed new deals making them the two richest quarterbacks in the NFL. However, Mahomes isn’t worried about being the highest-paid player.

Mahomes is a two-time MVP and Super Bowl champion at just 27 years old. After his first Super Bowl win, Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million deal making him the highest-paid player. Since then, six quarterbacks have passed him in terms of average yearly value.

Mahomes doesn’t worry about being the highest-paid player. Instead, his focus is on winning championships and his legacy. He knows in order for that to happen, the team needs to be able to surround him with good players.

“Me, my agent and the team always keep open communication,” Mahomes said. “And we try to do whatever is best for the team but obviously, I want to do the best for myself as well. But at the same time, I’ve always said I worry about legacy and winning rings more than money at this moment.”

“You look at the team and you’ve got guys like Chris (Jones) and (L’Jarius) Sneed and Travis (Kelce) and all these guys you need to keep around you to have these great teams but at the same time, you want to make sure you’re taking care of yourself.”

Other quarterbacks such as Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow are going to sign new deals soon. Mahomes will most likely be the ninth highest-paid quarterback at the start of training camp.

The Mahomes contract situation is going to be a topic of discussion until a new deal is in place. However, Mahomes doesn’t care if he is the highest-paid player as long as the Chiefs are contending for championships.
