The Pittsburgh Steelers improved their season record to 3-3 on Sunday night. But their victory over the Seattle Seahawks was not without controversy. With just seconds remaining, Seahawks QB Geno Smith completed a pass to receiver DK Metcalf. Following the play, Seattle quickly rushed to the line of scrimmage to clock the ball and attempt a game-tying field goal, which would send the game to overtime.

As time expired, the officials decided to review whether or not Metcalf made the catch. A bizarre call for an obvious catch and a decision that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin labeled ‘an embarrassment.’

“I hated it. Hated it. I cannot believe that game was stopped to confirm catch, no catch in that moment. It was an embarrassment.”

The call appeared meaningless, with the completion to Metcalf seeming a straightforward catch and run. From the eyes of the Pittsburgh camp, the decision to review was nothing more than an attempt to slow down the game for the Seattle Seahawks.

Thanks to a 43-yard field goal from Jason Myers. The game ultimately went to overtime, where Pittsburgh’s TJ Watt took over. The outside linebacker stepped up with a big sack forcing a punt on Seattle’s first possession of overtime. Before punching the ball out of Geno Smith’s hands to set up the game-winning field goal.

Mike Tomlin may have been left frustrated by the review decision, but in reality, the Pittsburgh Steelers were lucky to have got to that stage. With 1:53 remaining in the fourth quarter Ben Roethlisberger threw a pass straight at Seattle’s Jamal Adams, and nine times out of ten, he would have got the pick. Luckily for Roethlisberger, the ball struck Adams in the face, thus failing to make the play.

A crucial home victory for the Pittsburgh Steelers but ultimately another lackluster performance overall, Ben Roethlisberger’s form remains a big concern for the team moving forward.
