In the first big draft trade of the offseason, the San Francisco 49ers trade up for the #3 pick in the NFL Draft(per Adam Schefter). They moved up from #12 to #3 with the Miami Dolphins. This year, the 49ers traded #12, a 3rd round pick next year, and two consecutive 1st round picks in 2022 and 2023. As the league starts to enter the draft season, this is a sign of more teams getting aggressive. With this trade, we should see more trades come through.

The San Francisco 49ers move up for the #3 pick in the NFL Draft

The San Francisco 49ers trade up for the #3 pick in NFL Draft to get a young QB to replace Jimmy Garoppolo. They do this despite many conflicting reports about what might happen in this year’s draft. The 49ers only add to that confusion. They move up despite the report by Adam Schefter that they are not trading Jimmy Garoppolo. The 49ers are willing to give up picks to get their team better, and this proves it.

The Miami Dolphins trade back and get set for the future

The Miami Dolphins coming off of a major rebuild have done it perfectly. They traded tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Houston Texans and flipped him into 5 major draft picks. This also gives them extra draft picks as they try to give their young QB Tua Tagovailoa more weapons. This also helps them become contenders in the loaded AFC.

What does this mean for the league?

This almost ensures that all of the top 5 QBs could be gone in the top ten picks. As the 49ers move up, other teams can evaluate their position in the draft and whether they should move up. In the coming days and weeks, look for more trades, and teams get more aggressive in the draft. With the 49ers making this move, this crazy offseason only gets crazier.
