Sep 20, 2020; East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA; San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (10) is sacked by New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (95) during the first quarter at MetLife Stadium.

Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco quarterback, will not play in a Week 4 matchup against the Eagles. Adam Schefter confirmed the news on twitter.

Garoppolo missed three practices after suffering a high ankle sprain. Coach Kyle Shannahan said that the quarterback would’ve needed to practice at least once this week to be considered for the game on Sunday. Backup quarterback Nick Mullens will make his second consecutive start with Garoppolo out.

The 49ers have been no stranger to injuries this season, with multiple key players missing games this season. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, tight end George Kittle, running back Tevin Coleman, and tight end Jordan Reed are just a few of the players that have missed time with various injuries. However, Kittle and Samuel are expected to play this week; Coleman and Reed have been ruled out for extended periods.

Running Back Raheem Mostert is also out due to a knee issue. The 49ers suffered a rash of injuries last week during a win over the Jets. Many players have complained about the turf at MetLife Field, including Mostert himself.

Garoppolo’s next chance to return to action will be in Week 5 when the 49ers take on the Miami Dolphins.
