The Aaron Rodgers saga continues. According to Adam Schefter, the Packers star quarterback has declined a two-year extension that would make him the highest-paid player in the NFL.

This report is just the latest in what has been a drama-filled offseason for Rodgers and the Packers. Adam Schefter first reported on draft day that Aaron Rodgers wanted out of Green Bay. Since then, the quarterback has not reported to any of the Packer’s OTAs. Despite Packers training camp starting next week, this latest report puts his attendance in doubt.

Rodgers is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. He won his third MVP and threw for 48 touchdowns to just five interceptions. Because of this great play, the Packers had their second straight 13-3 season and a trip to the NFC Championship game. However, the Packers lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Coming off a very successful season, there isn’t one clear reason why Rodgers wants out of Green Bay. Although, In an interview with Kenny Mayne on ESPN, Rodgers cited the organization’s culture, most likely a reference to Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst.

“Itís just about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go. Itís about character, itís about culture, itís about doing things the right way.Ē

Moving forward, the Packers will look to second-year quarterback Jordan Love. In last year’s NFL draft, Love was drafted in the first round, 26th overall, when the Packers traded up four spots. So far in OTAs, Love has been “a lot more comfortable,” according to running back Aaron Jones. In the case Rodgers doesn’t show up for the Packers, it seems they have confidence in their young signal-caller.

Though it is unclear when or if Aaron Rodgers will play for the Packers this upcoming season, it will remain one of the biggest storylines entering the 2021 season. With Packers training camp starting next week, his attendance or absence will play a huge part in what comes next for the star quarterback.
