Sep 20, 2020; Tampa, Florida, USA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady (12) talks with head coach Bruce Arians (right) and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich against the Carolina Panthers during the second quarter at Raymond James Stadium.

When Bruce Arians was asked if Tom Brady knew it was fourth down, he said that Brady was fully aware.

What Happened?

After the Bears kicked a field goal to put them up by one, Brady and the Bucs came on to the field to try and produce a game-winning drive.

With just over a minute remaining, Brady completed a pass to Mike Evans on the first play of the drive, giving them a first down.

On first down, Brady threw an incomplete pass in Evans direction. Then, on second down, he completed a four-yard pass to Ke’Shawn Vaughn. A failed third-down attempt led the Buccaneers to what could be the final play of the night for their offense. After Brady took the snap, he looked in the tight end, Cameron Brate’s direction, and threw the ball. A Bears defender broke it up.

What confused everyone is what comes next. Brady stayed out on the field and put up four fingers.

Many people picked up on why Brady stayed out there; he lost track of downs. With thinking there may be one more down, Brady may not have made the throw he did on fourth down.

Although the thing is, we’ll never know what was going on in his head at that very moment.

His actions surprised people all over, including Magic Johnson.

Johnson may have been hinting at the idea that Brady was just trying to get the refs to realize a mistake that didn’t even happen.

Brady’s Recent Struggles

*all stats from pro-football-reference.com*

Despite a great Thursday Night Football game, Brady hasn’t been looking too great himself.

Brady has thrown four interceptions this season, two of which resulted in a touchdown.

His struggles could be associated with his offensive line, and their lack of blocking. Opponents have gotten to Brady and sacked him eight times this season. Also, the camera caught Brady rolling his eyes after another Khalil Mack sack. There is no doubt that he’s fed up with his o-line.

Another disappointing loss for the Buccaneers, as they fall to 3-2 on the season.

Their next match-up is against the Green Bay Packers on the 18th of October.
