Shaquill Griffin is reportedly making a move to Jacksonville. The Jaguars made a move for Griffin, who will split up from his brother Shaquem for the first time in their careers.
Griffin played an integral part in the Seahawks’ 2020 defense that saw them make the first round of the playoffs. However, the defense lacked the tenacity of years past in Seattle and often came under fire for their lackluster play. Regardless, Griffin is still considered a quality player. He even made the Pro Bowl just 2 seasons ago in 2019.
Issues persisted in Seattle after rumors of a Russell Wilson fallout came to a head in the offseason. Regardless, Griffin is already leaving Seattle after a disappointing season.
His new contract in Jacksonville is worth a reported $44.5 million with $29 million of that sum guaranteed.
In Jacksonville, Griffin joins Tre Herndon and Sidney Jones’s cornerbacks to bolster a defense that struggled last season. Jacksonville finished a dismal 1-15 to put them at the rock bottom of the AFC South.
However, the Jags have the number one overall pick in the upcoming draft. If they are to select a generational talent, next season could prove much better than 2020.
