Green Bay Packer’s front office is to blame for Odell Beckham Jr. choosing the Rams

One of the biggest off-the-field stories of late in the NFL has been the landing spot for Odell Beckham Jr. The newly and no longer free agent landed on the Los Angeles Rams around 24 hours ago. He initially listed the Green Bay Packers as his ideal landing spot. Thanks to the Packers front office, though, OBJ agreed to terms with the Rams instead.

OBJ became a free-agent halfway through his eighth season in the NFL. He spent his first five seasons with the New York Giants. In the 2019 offseason, the Giants traded him to the Cleveland Browns for a first and third-round pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. A few weeks ago, his dad posted a video showing QB Baker Mayfield missing OBJ on open looks.

NBA/NFL insider Jordan Schultz has been all over the OBJ news. For Beckham Jr., it came down to the Packers and Rams, despite some murmurs from the Saints, Chiefs, and Patriots. However, Schultz reported that the most significant difference between his final two options was their confidence in him and their teams this season.

“Odellís final 2 teams came down to the Rams and Packers (who remained his preferred destination). Not once did OBJ feel like GB was all-in. On the flip side, he spoke w/Sean McVay, who was able to creatively detail the multitude of ways heíd maximize OBJís talents.”

Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the best NFL receivers of the last decade. He has 1,000 receiving yards in all five of his fully healthy seasons. However, he has had his fair share of injuries over his career, and he’s missed significant time over the last two years with the Browns.

“Packers front office is the main reason why they failed to land Odell Beckham, Jr., per sources. Iím told HC Matt LaFleur wanted OBJ, believing his acquisition would be both seamless/positive for GB offense. FO lowballed Beckham, while the Rams believed in him. Sources say Packers front office never really bought into OBJ, causing him to feel disrespected.

Now, Odell joins the Los Angeles Rams, who are all-in on winning the title this season. The Rams acquired Matthew Stafford over the offseason and just went out and traded for former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller. Beckham Jr. is likely the third receiver in the pecking order on the Rams, with Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods lining up at receiver already.
