The New England Patriots are releasing veteran receiver Mohamed Sanu.

The Patriots traded for Sanu last season at the trade deadline for a second-round pick.

In his time with New England, Sanu caught 26 passes for 206 yards and one touchdown. He didn’t find much success in his time in New England.

With the release of Mohamed Sanu, the Patriots are left with a receiving core of N’Keal Harry, Damiere Byrd, Gunner Olszewski, and Matthew Slater.

Sanu was about to enter his ninth season in the NFL. He spent four years in Cinncinati, three and a half in Atlanta, and half a year in New England. Besides his struggles in New England, he has caught 403 passes for 4,507 yards and 26 touchdowns for his career. Also, he has only passed the 800-yard receiving mark once.

Hopefully, a team that needs a receiver picks up Sanu, as he is a talented receiver and has found some success in the past. He may not be a day one starter, but he can add depth to any receiving core.

For the Patriots, they kick off their season against the Miami Dolphins on September 13th at home.
