Packers and Davante Adams are in “a bad place” after breaking off contract negotiations

More bad news is coming out of Green Bay. It seems that quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t the only superstar that has a problem with the organization. Their number one wide receiver Davante Adams has reportedly broken off his contract negotiations with the team, and they’re in a “bad place,” according to Ian Rapoport.

Last season, Adams caught 115 passes for 1374 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was top five in both receptions and yards and led the NFL in touchdown receptions.

Coming off of a career year, Adams is scheduled to become a free agent next offseason. Because of his recent play, Adams and his camp believe that he deserves to be paid as the top receiver in the NFL. However, according to the report, the Packers have not offered him an extension to make him the top paid wideout.

This news comes off the heels of a report that star quarterback Aaron Rodgers has declined a record-breaking extension with the Packers.

Adams’ displeasure with the Packers puts the team in a tough spot. Last season, no Packers receiver eclipsed 700 yards other than Adams. Also, only tight end Robert Tonyan had more than 50 receptions. Though they drafted wide receiver Amari Rodgers in the third round of the NFL Draft, it would be unfair to place such high expectations on him or any of the Packers wide receivers.

This report will also not stop the recruiting of the star receiver from other teams. Adams’ former college quarterback Derek Carr has already expressed his major interest in reuniting with the star wide receiver on the Las Vegas Raiders.

Coming off two straight NFC championship appearances, the Packers find themselves in a tough situation. Rather than building on a team that went 13-3 last season, they’re trying to appease two unhappy superstars. With the Packers training camp set to start on July 27th, it’ll be interesting to see if Adams is in attendance. With Aaron Rodgers already wanting out, Davante Adams’ unhappiness adds on to what’s been a nightmarish offseason for the Packers.
