The Pittsburgh Steelers have felt like a team that is a quarterback away since Ben Roethlisberger was playing at a passable level. The Steelers are a franchise that’s associated with competitive and solid football.

When Kenny Pickett was drafted out of Pittsburgh in 2022, it looked as though the team had drafted their franchise QB. However, in the years that have followed, Pickett hasn’t done enough to solidify the position all to himself.

During this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, Steelers GM Omar Khan took the opportunity to address Pickett.

“I have full faith in Kenny Pickett. Obviously, there were some issues with the offense, and I’m excited about the impact that Arthur Smith is going to have on him.

Pickett’s first two years haven’t necessarily been bad. However, he still hasn’t shown enough to have the keys to the offense going forward. In his 25 games, he has 13 touchdowns to go along with 13 interceptions.

The Steelers have been linked to both Kirk Cousins and Justin Fields this offseason. Whether either of those two ends up in Pittsburgh remains to be seen. There is no denying that the team is in desperate search of a franchise quarterback. No matter if that involves Pickett or not.

“We’ll look at every option. Right now we have one guy under contract, that’s Kenny Pickett. I feel really good about Kenny, but he knows, and we all know there’s going to be competition in the room.”

Regardless of who the team brings in at quarterback, there is no denying that they will at least bring in competition for Pickett. It is now in the 25-year-old’s hands if he can do enough.
