EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - DECEMBER 08: (NEW YORK DAILIES OUT) Jamal Adams #33 of the New York Jets in action against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium on December 08, 2019 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Jets defeated the Dolphins 22-21.

After formally requesting a trade one month ago, Jamal Adams finally got dealt. The New York Jets will send Adams and a 2022 fourth-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2021 first-rounder, a 2022 first-rounder, a 2021 third-rounder, and safety Bradley McDougald.

In January, the Pro Bowler actually discussed wanting to remain a Jet. He also said that he expected a contract extension before the start of the next season. In the following months, the Jets and the safety had extension talks but continued to make no progress. Then, word got out the Jets discussed trading Adams with other teams. This infuriated Jamal enough to request a trade. Despite his request, it seemed that the Jets were intent on keeping him anyway. Knowing this, Adams decided to push some buttons. In a series of statements, the All-Pro safety attacked prominentmembersin the Jets organization.

On Friday, he criticized head coach Adam Gase in a newspaper interview: “I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land. As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building,” Adams told the New York Daily News.

On Wednesday, he denounced owner Woody Johnson after reports surfaced of Johnson making racist and sexist remarks. He wrote, “We need the RIGHT people at the top. Wrong is wrong!”

Sources say that team officials were furious at Adams for these statements. This further strained the relationship between the team and the safety.

Since the Seahawks wanted to secure an established player this offseason, Adams was the perfect target. They were intent on getting a star due to uncertainty about the 2021 Draft. With the coronavirus pandemic, there is a good chance that the college football season will not be played. So they took the opportunity to get him.

After the trade, Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner expressed their excitement. The Seahawks quarterback tweeted, “Let’s get it!!!“. The star linebacker added, “Let’s go!“.

Although Seattle gave up a lot to get Adams, their defense should significantly improve. The addition has the potential to make them a legitimate Super Bowl contender this season.

Meanwhile, the Jets lose an All-Pro, an obvious step back for the organization. Hopefully, for them, they can cash in on the draft picks they received.

Jamal Adams is set to face off against his former team on December 13th.
