Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has recently expressed his desire to play the game of football for the foreseeable future. Also, despite being a minority owner in the Seattle Sounders, Wilson wants to try his hand in NFL ownership once he does eventually retire.

“I knew I was wildly crazy about the game, but I’m ridiculously obsessed with it.”

Wilson revealed his plans on an upcoming episode of the AP Pro Football podcast hosted by Rob Maddi. Wilson is now in his 10th NFL season, all with Seattle. He has made seven Pro Bowls and has led the Seahawks to the playoffs eight times in his prior nine years. He won Super Bowl 48 with the Seahawks when they dismantled the Denver Broncos, led by Peyton Manning.

Russell Wilson has missed three games this season, and the Seahawks went 1-2 in those games. Overall, the Seahawks have had a disappointing season, sitting at 3-6. Though the division may be out of reach, they’re still in the hunt for a wildcard spot in a race that’s wide open.

Wilson wanting to play 20 years comes as no surprise considering the longevity of quarterbacks in recent years. Tom Brady being the most notable, is now in his 22nd NFL season at age 44. Drew Brees, who retired after last season, played 20 seasons and hung up his cleats at 41. Other quarterbacks, including Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan, have also expressed their eagerness to play into their 40s.

It’ll be interesting to see whether or not Wilson spends the rest of his career in Seattle. This past offseason, rumors of Wilson wanting out of Seattle started to circulate; however, the quarterback denied those rumors. The Seahawks struggling this year, and a lack of draft capital may lead to the quarterback thinking twice about his chances to win in Seattle. Whatever he decides, Russell Wilson has proven to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of this generation, and him playing 20 years will be great for the NFL.
