The Los Angeles Chargers finally decided to pull the plug on Brandon Staley as the head coach of the team. After a disappointing 5-9 season, the Chargers will now put their focus on their next head coach of the future.
“It’s unclear if the feeling is mutual, as Harbaugh gets set to coach the Wolverines in their third consecutive College Football Playoff appearance.”Jordan Schultz
The Chargers have failed to make the leap that many had anticipated. While a large portion of the blame falls on the shoulders of Staley, the team will need to take Justin Herbert’s prime seriously if they want to win a Super Bowl.
Meanwhile, Harbaugh is preparing his Wolverines to try and win the college playoffs. Michigan is the one seed in the bracket and has a great chance to win the title. More speculation on Harbaugh’s return to the league won’t come until after the college season is over.
As for the Chargers, adding someone like Harbaugh as their head coach could be exactly what the team needs. The team has been looking to get over the hump throughout Herbert’s career. While a new head coach may not solve all of those problems, it will undoubtedly help.
The Chargers were also linked to New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. However, movement like that undoubtedly feels like a stretch. It seems much more likely that Belichick would retire as opposed to coaching another team.
No matter where the Chargers choose to go, they will likely look to shake things up this offseason in a major way.
