American defender Chris Richards recently spoke of fellow teammate Alphonso Davies on the Keeping It Simple Podcast. Alphonso Davies is the ‘hardest player to defend,’ says Chris Richards.
Richards, who plays for German giants Bayern Munich, spoke highly of Davies, a Bayern defender. Coming through the ranks at Bayern, Richards defended the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben, yet he still listed Davies as his most formidable opponent 1v1.
The 19-year-old is just in his second year at Bayern, along with Richards. After an impressive season in the MLS with the Vancouver Whitecaps, he earned a transfer to the Bundesliga champions.
At that time, he became a star won the Champions League at just 19 years old. Richards spent his first season abroad on the second team but recently made his first-team league debut, tallying an assist in the match.
Richards said that Davies’ pace “Is something that I’ve never seen…that the world has never seen.”
If this holds, Davies, already a world-class fullback, has the potential to become a generational talent.
