Crystal Palace FC starman Andros Townsend mocked UEFAs threats. UEFA presently threatened to move both the semi-finals and finals out of Wembley Stadium. Townsend’s tweet stated the following “football is for the fans, remember that line from UEFA. ” In addition to the statement, he also added a laughing emoji to further mock UEFA.

UEFA is presently threatening to move critical fixtures away from Wembley Stadium this summer. Both the Euro 2020 Semi-Final match is under threat at this time. UEFA wants quarantine exemptions for their VIPs and broadcasting partners. However, the UK government hasn’t guaranteed that quarantine exemptions for sponsors, VIPs, and broadcasters would occur. Only the national teams and their staff have presently secured such exemptions for avoiding quarantine.

UEFA infamously staged the UEFA Champions League Final in Portugal this year, despite the final containing two English clubs. The lack of quarantine exemptions for sponsors, broadcasters, and VIPs is the stated reason from UEFA officials. Therefore, the threat of Euro 2020 diverting away from Wembley Stadium is a scary possibility. Wembley Stadium is arguably the most prestigious venue in world football. And therefore, holding the final anywhere else wouldn’t sit well with a majority of fans.

Townsend’s mockery of UEFA follows their response to the failed European Super League project. The hypocrisy of UEFA, who claimed to be standing by the fans, became visible with their recent decisions. Despite famously clinging to the European Super League, UEFA recently agreed to let Juventus return to the champions league. The empty promises given to the fans repeatedly lead to criticism of UEFA. In addition to their threat of fining players for removing sponsored drinks. UEFA’s meager punishment of the Super League clubs widely criticized as spineless amongst the football media.
