England international Jack Butland is headed to Crystal Palace. After two years in the Championship, Butland finds himself back in the Premier League. Crystal Palace signed him to a 3-year deal on the Oct. 16th deadline day.
Palace manager Roy Hodgson had a big part in securing the transfer. Hodgson previously coached the keeper with the English National Team. Although Butland last played for England in 2018, Hodgson still has faith in the keeper.
When discussing the transfer, Hodgson said, “[Him] coming to a new club will enable him to resurrect his career and show once again what a good goalkeeper he is.”
With top-flight football at Selhurst Park, Butland looks to once again break into the national team. When asked about his ambitions of international football, he said, “[Playing for England] is always at the forefront of my mind, but that means getting into the team at [Palace] and playing well here.”
Following a disappointing season at Stoke City filled with injuries and mistakes, it’s surprising to see Crystal Palace taking their chances on him. However, if given the right defense and right coaching, Butland can shine. He’s done it before, and he seems keen on doing it once more with a new club.
