The Champions League is underway, with some group stage matches already being played. It is only common to talk about who are the favorites to win the Champions League. One squad that might have all the tools to win the Champions League is PSG. After a historic transfer window for the club, PSG was able to sign Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gini Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Achraf Hakimi. Alongside these new world-class signings, PSG already has a super-team. As a result, these extra players are the cherry on top.

With Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, and Kylian Mbappé upfront, this squad has the best attackers in the world on one team. Another reason why PSG can be successful is their defense. Ramos, Marquinhos, Hakimi, Mendes, and Kimpembe are all world-class players and one of the most exciting backlines that we can see in Europe. They also have Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino. He was able to take Tottenham Hotspur to the 2019 Champions League Final but is yet to win a major European Trophy. With a squad like PSG, this is Pochettino’s best chance at European glory.

PSG has world-class players to win the Champions League

Six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi is ready to take on a new challenge after leaving FC Barcelona. The move to PSG seems like the obvious choice for the Argentine international. With ten La-Liga titles, Lionel Messi is not interested in winning the league title in France. The main target for a player of this quality is always going to be the Champions League. PSG has come so close to a Champions League trophy in the past couple of years. Lionel Messi might push the team one step forward for a chance at the most sought-after cup at the club level.

Kylian Mbappé is already at legendary status in France after winning the 2018 World Cup. Winning the Champions League with PSG would create a legacy that nobody has done before in France. Kylian Mbappé’s contract with PSG ends in the summer of 2022. This would be his last season in Paris which would also be his last chance at the Champions League trophy with this squad. With the new signing of Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr alongside him, this is by far the most dangerous attack in the world. This attack is ready to give defenders nightmares. Neymar Jr is also prepared to prove all his haters wrong and show that the record-breaking €222 million transfer was a lot of money but worth it in the end.

PSG has a brand new defensive lineup to test out. Four-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos, is one of the most impactful signings. PSG has a bad history when it comes down to the second leg of the Champions League. A historic 6-1 defeat against FC Barcelona in 2017 demonstrated that anything could happen. After that match, PSG realized that a good defense is a key to winning the Champions League. Alongside Sergio Ramos, who is yet to debut, PSG brought in Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes. These two wing-backs are some of the fastest players who can catch up to anybody who gets past them.

Mauricio Pochettino under pressure

An essential piece to the puzzle is always going to be the manager. Mauricio Pochettino could still face challenges during his 2021/2022 season despite having world-class stars. Mauricio Pochettino has all the players he could imagine managing. So, he must be able to rotate them throughout the regular season and domestic competitions. He cannot risk any injuries. The manager’s role at a top club like PSG is to play the best lineup during the Champions League. This isn’t possible if Pochettino doesn’t rotate his players throughout the regular season to prevent injuries. A lack of rotation within the squad can result in a Champions League catastrophe.

The Champions League is an obligation to win for PSG. Even a second-place finish in the Champions League would result in a huge disappointment for the soccer club. During the 2019/2020 Champions League campaign run, former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel was released of his duties following the loss in the finals of the Champions League. We can expect to see the same thing happen to Mauricio Pochettino if his squad doesn’t start living up to expectations.

There is still a long way to go for the Champions League finals to arrive. PSG has all the tools necessary to lift the biggest trophy at the club level. It will be a massive upset if they do not see the finals with a world-class attack and an upgraded defense. It is only a matter of time before we start seeing this group of players playing at their best and showing the world that they’re in it for the win.
